Years ago I took up metal detecting in and around Great Kills Harbor, I would search during extremely low tides. What was interesting was finding Hadkins bottles with the Rotating stopper still intact inside the neck of the bottle. Upon investigation it appeared the stopper system included a lead seal in the neck of the bottle. I didn't understand why my detector was sounding off on glass bottles until I examined some broken bottle necks I found. Can you imagine drinking anything today that obviously was made with lead components. Imagin those unfortunate people back then that got poisoned over the years. I guess were still not safe, today it's plastics killing us.

Hey everybody !.
I have some "Hadkins" bottles I have found around the beach at mean low tide near the new "killie creek" (as I call it) or the new bird observation deck. My bottles vary by shape and description. I would love to know as much as possible about the Hadkins Bottling Company . I think its cool that Staten Island had a beverage company here ! Hope to hear from somebody soon !
