Main Street at one time had the tallest and most beautiful trees in Tottenville. The trees were taken down so that Main Street would be widened. At the corner of Amboy Road and Main Street was the Drake Homestead. This was demolished so Berkower Market could be built. The Rifles Bakery was a white wooden house & store. Mr. Ruben O. Wood operated this as a bakery for years. Later it was used at the villiages Post Office. The building was later moved to Craig Avenue were Ruben O. Wood and his family lived.
