I lived in the 4 plex downstairs 174- it was owned by Abe Goldberg. Lived there from 8/60 till 8/66 then moved to Craig Ave. near Main. Me and the gang used to hang out on the corner of Wood and Craig.those were good times. Dave
Yes!!! I lived at (160? 180? Can't remember now. It was about 4 houses down from the 4-plex near the intersection of Craig) from 1964 until I went away to college in St Louis, then moved to California. It was a red house with a yard that went all the way through to Lee Avenue. It's gone now; after my folks sold it & moved in the '90's it was eventually torn down and the property had two houses built on it; one facing Wood, one facing Lee.
My brother still lives down on Arthur Kill Rd, about 2 or 3 blocks from there.

WOW Sheila-Anne! What a great website! I remeber in the 1950's going to watch my brother Frank McAndrew play his trombone with the Tottenville High School Band on the old Pavillion at the end of Hylan Blvd. Also walking around in the Billopp House years later with my kids when they were little, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famed and elusive Billopp House Ghost. The idea of secret tunnels under that house fascinated me.
Keep up the nice work on the website . It shows a very important part of Staten Island that is fast vanishing.

Sheila,
Sláinte (cheers to good health to you) and to all our Tottenville friends!
Tot Tot, Margie

My family moved to Tottenville in 1946. We lived on Craig Ave. near Bently St. I went to PS#1 from second grade on. Although my family moved to Annadale in 1952, I went to Tottenville High and graduated in 1956. Tottenville was still in the sticks at that time. I have been living in SC for the past 43 years and went back a couple of years ago for my 50th reunion from THS. Some things don't change much.
Sheila,
Hi, again. I love how you changed this to where I can easily add more photos to "Margie's Memories" side link!
I just did add a few more pcs & some of my mom's friends to see if any one knows who they are or if you might even be in the pic yourself. :o) Also, if someone knows where they are. If so, please leave us a note saying. Thanks!
Thanks again, Sheila! (you must be getting sick of hearing us say that sooooo much). :o)
Tot Tot,

What a wonderful site! You did a great job! I live in Tottenville from February 1964 until I was married in 1986. I just loved viewing all the photos of Main St, which was where my grandparents lived and where I spent many days playing and walking to the Cracker Barrel, looking into the window of the Art Studio, admiring the marble floors of the Bank. The Ferry Hill was a place which is where I spent many long days exploring the beaches and hanging out on the train trestles. I remember going down to the train to greet my Dad after his commute home from Manhattan. I remember the big oil spill and that we couldn't swim in the water anymore! Sleight riding down it but worrying that I would fall into the storm drains or worse into the water at the end of the dock! So many great memories.

Great site, My Mom worked at the Rectory at OLHC and I went to grammer school there. Then went to tottenville HS from 69-73. Thanks for the memmories.

Great site with a lot of memories. I was born and raised in Tottenville for 49 years. Over population and RUDE newbies made me move on. The memories of growing up in Tottenville will always be in my heart. Rockaway St. holds the fondest ones of all.

I noticed that you have pictures of Tottenvile. Growing up in the PORT RICHMOND, WESTERLEIGH and MARINERS HARBOR in the 50s I was wondering if you had any pictures of those areas. My wife and I went to PORT RICHMOND HIGH.
thank you Frank

Amazing site-all cities and towns should capture the past in this manner!

Great Job, the site is just wonderful and I love the picture of tottenville Beach. I had a great great uncle who was the owner of the tottenville hotel on Main street back in the 20s.

Great site. Anyone out there from Wood Ave? I lived there in the sixties.

Great site!! My family moved to Tottenville in 1961 and I'm the only Tottenville native in my family!! I love this site and all the memories. Thanks Sheila great job.

Sheila, you're doing a great job with this site, lots of photos and many names from the past!
